THE GREATNESS OF LORD SHIVA
1. Lord Shiva is popularly known as the Lord of destruction in Hindu mythology. According to Hinduism , Shiva destroys the universe which is preserved by Lord Vishnu and sets the stage for the process of re-creation of life by Lord Brahma.
2. Lord Shiva is not only evil and the eternal destroyer, he is also peaceful God. He is actually quite kind and benevolent according to various scriptures stories like the Puranas and the Upanishads.
3. Lord Shiva is a God who was equally revered by the Gods and Asuras. Anyone who performed strict penance with the goal of pleasing Lord Shiva and was successful gained boons from him. It often left the other Gods worried when the demons gained boons from Shiva.
4. The actual vision of Lord Shiva and the magnitude of his greatness is beyond our imagination and we believe that Shiva mantra “OM” which is the creator of universe and is a symbol of light source. Together with Lord Vishnu, he creates illusions to teach important lessons to mankind.
5. It is quite easy to please Lord Shiva by pure heart and a clear conscience, and gain his blessings. A person with pure heart will receive Shiva’s special favor in their life. Chanting his mantras offers protection from evils and obstacles. One can even gain Moksha or salvation by praying to Lord Shiva.
6. Lord Shiva is extremely generous and is mindful of the desires of his devotees. His generosity can help people absolve the sins of their past lives and the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra even has the power to bring people back from the verge of death.
7. Even during the incident of Samudra Manthan when the entire universe was in danger by covering by poisonous poison Halahala, Lord Shiva drank it up and saved the universe. His throat turned blue from the poison and he earned the praise of all the other Gods, who were quite grateful. By this, Lord Shiva named as Nilkantha ( God with Blue throat).
